Get CoOL on World Food Day

Today is UN World Food Day, and OANZ is using the occasion to call for meaningful, mandatory country of origin labeling for fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish.

We have written to the Minister of Consumer Affairs, outlining how voluntary labeling was failing New Zealand consumers - who increasingly want more information about where their food comes from, and how it is made.

OANZ is also a partner in a "CoOL New Zealand" event taking place at the Grey Lynn Community Centre in Auckland today, with panels of farmers/growers and consumers speaking about why we need country of origin labeling.

New Zealand's major trading partners - including Australia, China and the United States - already have country of origin labeling rules.  Surely Kiwi consumers should at least be able to get the same information about the origins of our food as our cousins across the ditch.
